Pediatric Dentistry explained
Children's teeth need their own kind of care. Milk teeth help with eating and speech, and they hold space for the adult teeth coming through behind them.
Regular visits let us spot problems early, protect teeth from decay and help children get used to the dental clinic while they're young.
Benefits
- Finds cavities while they're small
- Protects teeth with fluoride and sealants where needed
- Tracks how teeth and jaws are developing
- Helps children feel comfortable at the dentist
When it may help
- Your child's first tooth has come through
- White or brown spots on the teeth
- Toothache, or your child avoiding certain foods
- Thumb-sucking that continues as adult teeth arrive
What happens during treatment
- 1
Say hello
We take time to help your child settle and get to know the clinic.
- 2
Gentle check
We count and check the teeth, and look at how the mouth is growing.
- 3
Prevent
We clean the teeth and suggest fluoride or sealants if they would help.
- 4
Plan together
We explain what we've found and show you how to care for your child's teeth at home.
Will it hurt?
We explain each step in words children understand and go at their pace. If a treatment is needed, we numb the area so your child stays comfortable.
After your treatment
- Help your child brush twice a day until they can do it well themselves
- Limit sugary snacks and drinks between meals
- Keep up regular check-ups as your dentist suggests
